LA is bursting with hip-hoppers at the moment. Anyone and everyone is in town. Our inboxes are flooded with pre-party and post-party and wrap-party and gifting-suite-party invites. Someone break out the confetti, the BET Awards are in town. Most of the nominees are exactly what you might expect from the network often blamed for ruining rap music (because who in their right mind would blame a 17-year-old kid? Oh, yeah, right), accept for one: Kid Sister.
Nominated in the best female artist category alongside Eve, Missy, Trina and Lil “America’s Best Dance Judge” Mama, Kid Sis is certainly out-ranked in terms of recognition. After all, her debut album, Koko B Ware, hasn’t even been released yet. But damn, “Pro Nails” is gangster. We’re not sure if there’s ever been a bad song that uses Project Pat on the hook, evar. So it’s something of a surprise, even to Kid Sis. Here’s what she told us for her upcoming story in URB #154, hitting your mailbox in the next two weeks or so.
“Getting nominated for a BET award, presenting at the awards, it’s the funniest thing ever. Is this a joke? I’m fucking laughing my ass off. A lot of people get all, ‘Well, I aaam nominated for blah blah,’ shut the fuck up. I’m going to do the pony onstage, hopefully I won’t fall.”
And just so you don’t think that she’s above it all, Kid Sis still remembers the old day job:
“Chris Brown came up to me and I didn’t even notice because I’m coasting through life, and he’s like, ‘It’s an honor to meet you,’” she says in a bowing butler voice. “What are you on, crack? Then Rihanna came up, ‘Oh my god, it’s Kid Sister.’ What? I work at fucking Bath and Body Works! I know I don’t anymore, but I still feel like I do.”
