In an age where information seems to leak before the actual event (or in this matter, filing of a lawsuit), it’s almost shocking that this case hasn’t seen the light of the internet before now. In New York’s Southern District Court, Atlantic Recording Corporation is suing Mixtrap.com and BCD for copyright infringement over “intellectual property.” And no, those quotes aren’t a dig on Gucci Mane and Plies being at the center of this case.
The lawsuit details are online here. A representive of Atlantic Records didn’t want to comment on the case and calls to BCD and Mixtrap went unanswered. Mixtrap.com is also down for “maintenance.” According to Courthouse News, “Atlantic Records claims BCD Music Group and Mixtrap pirate and sell copyrighted tunes by hip-hop artists ‘Plies’ and ‘Gucci Mane.’”
BCD Music, according their website, is “the distributor of choice, because we cater to artists and record labels that have the desire, personality, and resources to achieve their dreams…We reach traditional bricks and mortar retail stores, national chains, as well as mom & pop stores across the United States. BCD also services online stores and digital down-load websites.”
Terms of the lawsuit are still unavailable. More on this story as it develops.
