Neon Noise: Embrace some Ladyhawke (MP3)

I’ve been feeling New Zealander Ladyhawke since I first heard her sweeping vocals anchoring Pnau’s “Embrace,” and digging deeper, I was just as taken by her own tracks. It’s easy to see why the now London-based chanteuse cites Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac as her BFF musical heroes (just glance at this pic, which looks like a backstage snap from the “Rumors” photo session). Yet, she really doesn’t sound like Stevie. I actually hear a bit of Karen O, spit-shined with some Kim Wilde and Suzi Quatro? Ooh, now there’s a flashback! Oh, and her name was taken from the 1985 sword ‘n scorcery flick starring Matthew Broderick. For sure, this Lady’s got some 80’s influences going on, but somehow her dreamy synthpop just sounds, like, so totally now.

Give a listen why everything from down under will take you asunder!
