After the 500 interviews Nas has given over the past few weeks (including our cover story, currently on newsstands), Mr. Jones finally buckled under the apparent pressure of controversy. According to EW.com, he’s changed the title from the veritable “fuck you” that it was, to something that just kinda fucks himself. From Nigger to just plain Nas.
There are two ways to look at this: (1) Perhaps, Nas’s work didn’t reach the level of insight the album’s title required, in which case this might just be a good thing or (2) This is another case of corporate America being afraid to open the flood gates by stepping on a few toes, which is the same old loss for everyone trying to make a dollar out of 15 cents.
