Krizz Kaliko proves that Tech N9ne isn’t the only talent in the Midwest rap bizz. The senior rapper’s prot’g'e, Kaliko makes a strong debut with Vitiligo, which is named after his skin pigmentation disorder that makes him look like a few snowflakes have fallen on his eye lids and lashes. Other than a few mentions though, the condition doesn’t take much room on the album. There are equal parts saucy fun (the Midwest does love a good strip-club joint) and personal reflection. Tech N9ne ‘the technician,’ makes many appearances to ‘keep the panties drizzlin’,’ E40 graces us with his goofy presence on ‘The Bidness,’ and fellow Kansas City rapper Kutt Calhoun helps up the intensity. ‘Let’s Dip’ is a sexy single with a chorus mixed with garbley deep synth and high-pitched vocals, singing, ‘Don’t trip, I know you just met me but lets-lets dip.’ The fro-ey haired artist, who raps about himself as a ‘church-’ and ‘fat-boy,’ is nonetheless a natural to the sexy rap serenade with ‘Where You Want Me,’ where he asks the lady to let her ass ‘surf‘ because it’s so ‘goddamn perf.’ Personality, authenticity, and style should elevate this Kansas City cat to the top of his game.
