Nobody Presents Blank Blue: Western Water Music Vol. II

Released by Ubiquity Records

An album concept is often as simple as ’sexy’ or ‘guy chases girl.’ Blank Blue, however, does not take the importance of a story lightly. The collaboration of Elvin Estela (aka ‘Nobody’) and his new vocalist, Niki Randa, had a very specific inspiration for Western Water Music Vol. II. Basically, it’s your everyday occurrence: an Armageddon separates the western U.S. from the east, the land sinks and takes the people with it. But wait, all is not lost! The sinking people inhale some water poisoned by mushrooms and are able to breathe under water! Randa’s vocals indeed sound aquatic. In real life, this would imply gurgley and bubbly (coughing, gasping…) but logic has no place here. In the Blank Blue underwater world, this means that her voice (along with the instrumentation) is fluid and tranquil. Synthey bass lines accompany almost tribal beats in their more upbeat ‘In the Swim,’ while Randa uses her angelic voice to hypnotize you with the slower ‘Sonic What?!’ The follow-up to Nobody’s Pacific Drift: Western Water Music Vol. I, Volume II is relevant to any hippie, surfer, massage recipient, and well, the opposite of nobody. A prolific producer, Nobody has been on tour with bands like The Mars Volta for the last five years and returned to the Western Water aesthetic to find one perfect vocalist. He found her in Randa, his record store co-worker. It turns out the two get along just swimmingly as artists as well. Their album washes up on May 6th so do your soul a favor and give it a listen.
