Vaguest Vacation

Released by Mindspray

Domer, the white guy rapper from Brooklyn, releases his new genre blending full-length Vaguest Vacation. Each track seems to give a different vibe, from (ahem) hip-hop to indie rock to electronic: however, it’s so mixed that this really doesn’t feel like a hip-hop album at all. On top of random sounds, his vocals range from Everlast to Linkin Park to Modest Mouse to Eminem at best. Though his rapping skills can be up to par at times, there are several instances of weak rhyming like ‘oh my god, it seems so odd.’ The backbeat most like traditional hip-hop is seen in ‘What We’re Gonna Do,’ whereas most of the other beats seem only to resemble hip-hop in the mere fact that Domer is rapping his lyrics and not singing them. Vaguest Vacation’s tracks lack any bumping basslines or creative complex beats and Domer’s vocals sound so much like ’90s alternative rock that they also pull away from the hip-hop vibe he aims for.
