Q-Tip is set to join Rock The Bells to promote his highly anticipated release The Renaissance—out this summer on Universal Motown. A Tribe Called Quest will then reunite to headline the (*cough* Award *cough*) tour.
After praise from The New York Times’ ArtsBeat for his live performances last fall—“Q-Tip sounded terrific throughout the show: loose but fierce, an endless fount of energy”—legendary and awarded Q-Tip will hit the stage once again with brand spankin’ new tracks from The Renaissance (while most likely still popping out some hits from his 1999 solo album Amplified). Can I get a “Vivrant Thing”?
Q-Tip has made his new single “WorkItOut” available on his Myspace page (link below) and also through iTunes. Featured artists on The Renaissance include Norah Jones, Pharrell, D’Angelo, and (get ready) Barack Obama. In support of Obama’s campaign, Q-Tip samples one of his speeches in a new track.
After each solo performance during Rock the Bells, Q-Tip will reunite with fellow Tribe members Phife Dawg and Ali Shaheed Muhammad on stage at the end of each date of the tour. Tribe was recently praised as an integral part of 2007’s VH1 Hip Hop Honors. As hoped, ATCQ will be performing their classics, demonstrating their much-loved unique genre-intermingling hip-hop flavor.
