Lily Allen Releases 2 New Tracks

Lily Allen’s new blonde ‘do isn’t the only surprise on her MySpace page. The British songstress, whose last material was featured on Mark Ronson’s Version, has two new songs with a new, easy-going electro flavor. The tracks are more reflective in tone but still sassy in lyrics, with a dreamy Kylie Minogue-like quality. She still manages to work in the term “fuckloads,” so her street cred isn’t all but lost with her brown locks. The new “I Don’t Know” is a sort of satirical version of Fergie’s “Glamorous.” Describing the ridiculousness of Hollywood’s standards and “glamour” in the verses, she breaks into truthful confession for the chorus, expressing, “I don’t know what I’ m meant to feel anymore.”

“I Could Say” is a refreshingly un-bitter moving-on song. No need to key the ex’s car or smash in the headlights; Lily takes a more chill approach and focuses on growing and feeling good about herself. It starts off as a piano ballad with sappy lyrics, but picks up with a poppy beat as she tells it like it is: “I could say that I’ll always have feelings for you, but I’ve got a life ahead of me and I’m only 22.” Perhaps departing from the kitschy folksiness that Kate Nash seems to have taken over, Lily Allen is moving on but staying true to her, ahem, roots.
