E-dot & Darpmalone are Hero

Released by Thirsty Music

Whether you love it or hate it, hip-hop is something that nearly everybody is opinionated about. Either you think that it’s nothing but radio-fueled filth or a circle of dudes with their Jansport straps cutting off their circulation (and bank account). With Hero’s E-dot & Darpmalone are Hero, neither one of these descriptions are true. Beginning with the reggae-inspired ‘Mogadishu’, the album starts off with E-dot sharing heartfelt and analytical yet upbeat lyrics. This is definitely where the duo’s strength lies: making music that is potent yet positive. While many rappers get stuck in the hamster wheel of self-indulgent boasting, this Canadian-born MC has an incredible gift for addressing life’s obstacles in such a way that will have you thinking about them without feeling completely defeated. Not to mention the fact that the production (thanks to Darpmalone) is extremely solid all the way through. The sound of E-dot & Darpmalone are Hero is both very hip-hop and very eclectic. Completely void of ‘R-rated’ verbage, Hero proves that music without profanity can still be adult and hold its own in a world where too many artists rely on it just to keep up. Plus, they also do a great job of proving that having an overall joyful feel to a project doesn’t limit its content. Everything from relationships (both good and bad) and a need for our world to change all the way to sex and using music as an escape are included on the album. Even if you aren’t a huge fan of hip-hop music, you should check out Hero and hope that your favorite genre is worth saving too.
