Angelenos busted out homemade signs and outfits, halted traffic by Maring down Sunset Boulevard and took the stage to speak out against the war in Iraq and other international acts of violence. Speakers – ranging from a Vietnam vet to a Pilipino mother – raised their voices against the “bullshit operation” in the Middle East, one speaker, dressed in fatigues blaming the “rich profiteers” for America’s continuous involvement.

Onlookers were comprised of mostly young people in their teens and twenties, stylishly dressed.

Although the anti-war gathering was allegedly for a common purpose, it was hard to weave in-and-out of the colorful crowd without getting asked to sign a petition, buy merch or take a flyer, promoting musical, environmental or socialist groups.

At least it ended strong, with a heartfelt chant “Iraq for Iraqis/troops out now!” and Rage Against the Machine’s ‘Guerilla Radio’ blaring on the loudspeakers.
