Head honcho of the loveable IHEARTCOMIX, DJ and all around wild and crazy guy, Franki Chan knows his shit. And his shit is that dance-party, fire-startin’, ear-drum poppin’ electro. Check out his can’t miss top 10 live shows of 2008 right here:
Boys Noize
I saw Boys Noize play several times in 2008, but the best was at Coachella. Tt absolutely destroyed the crowd, so much so, that it was tough for Erol Alkan to compete for the audience’s affection after the performance.
Sebastian Tellier
An hour long epic show at the Henry Fonda in Los Angeles. He really has great showmanship, and the part where he lays down on the piano, brilliant!
NOFX
I’ve been a NOFX fan my whole life, but this was the first time i saw them live. They played start to finish my favorite album of theirs, Punk in Drublic, it was like punk rock heaven
Diplo/Blaqstarr/Drop The Lime/Jokers Of The Scene
This combo took place at the IHEARTCOMIX/Mad Decent austin blowout. This was the climax of the evening and it was the dance party to end all dance parties!
Fred Falke
I did a mini tour with Fred this summer, but I had never seen him play live. When he began DJing and pulled out the live bass, I was totally blown away.
Midnight Juggernauts
I also did a brief tour with Midnight Juggernauts while I was playing drums with HEARTSRVOLUTION. The slowest show of the tour was also Midnight Juggernaut’s best. It was at a club in Brighton, UK, that had this awesome sound and light system. They took full advantage of it and went real big on that show.
Cool Kids/Hollywood Holt/Mic Terror/Mano
This was the first Check Yo Ponytail we had in 2008. I had always wanted to bring this entire Chicago crew to Los Angeles and we were finally able to pull it off.
Erol Alkan/Dan Deacon
This was the last Check Yo Ponytail. The crowd was insane the whole time! Going from a Dan Deacon show and then straight into Erol’s first LA appearance was one of the funnest shows i ever pulled off.
Dillenger Four
Hadn’t seen these guys in years, but saw them play the final Fuck Yeah Fest tour date in Brooklyn. They brought me back and reminded me how awesome ’90s pop punk really was, plus they just kill it at every show w hit after hit.
Justice
Justice at Coachella was the perfect end cap to a long and amazing weekend. They were the absolute last act of the festival and it was a just and profound finale.
