Warner Bros. Records has released a statement confirming that Chi Cheng, bassist of the Deftones, has been hospitalized following a serious car accident on Monday. Cheng was rushed to a San Jose hospital after incurring serious injuries in the accident. Cheng’s family, as well as Deftones singer Chino Moreno, continue to wait by his side in the intensive care unit, where doctors list his condition as serious, but stable. A Warner representative relates that “Cheng’s mother urges everyone to say a prayer for his recovery.”
For well over a year, the Deftones have been working on their highly anticipated sixth studio album, Eros. There is no word yet on whether the tentative spring 2009 release date will change.
