Black Dice create a din of early eighties throwback thrash and has a sound based completely on experimentation. Now based in Brooklyn, the group formed in the spring of 1997 at the Rhode Island School of Design where three of the original four members matriculated. Though currently signed to DFA/Astralwerks, the group has released several EP’s and LP’s with other labels to positive review. With their new album, Load Blown, the band moves away from the sound they have developed over the years and take a turn into more psychedelic sounds that verge on the acid jazz genre. Because the sound is based on repetition, yet it bounces off every wall it touches, the album can be like a bad trip inside the mind of a schizophrenic and new listeners may not be ready, but for the others who’ve supported the band in the past, it can be a welcome respite from the sound they’re used to.
