DJ Vadim is hoping he can a apprehend more than just quality beats after his tour van was broken into while parked in a Vancouver, BC hotel parking garage over the weekend. In a MySpace blog, The Soundcatcher goes into great detail about the ordeal that has left him without most of his hard drives and approximately $2,000 in other gear.
Thus far, the New York by way of Russia DJ has found little assistance from the local authorities. You can read Vadim’s lengthy account of the story here, or if you’re challenged for time, what follows is a quick run down on the incident.
Less than two hours after Vadim and his tourmates Abstract Rude and Yarah Bravo pulled into the parking garage at their Vancouver hotel, he gets a call from the desk telling him his car has been broken into. At the car they find a box of shirts, records and other stuff they sell at shows missing along with their driver’s clothes, a bag of Abstract Rude’s brand new kicks, and most costly, Vadim’s computer bag. While the laptop was up in his room, the bag contained Vadim’s MPC 500, a hard drive, headphones, needles, a serato interface unit, cables, sd memory cards and a memory stick.
After searching the garage a bit, they find the box of merchandise, most of their driver’s clothes and apparently a few of Abstract Rude’s shoes. After the theft they find out the garage has a big theft problem about which they were not warned. On top of that, the security cameras are just up for show and no tape of the smash and grab on their van exists.
Thus far, Vadim’s found the authorities, the hotel management and the garage management to be no help at all and despite a cobbled together show and a trip through Vancouver’s junkie park to try to find someone selling his gear, he’s headed back to the states to buy news stuff so he and the tour can continue their itinerary which runs through the beginning of Nov. If all this weren’t bad enough, the weak dollar means he can’t even buy the gear on the cheap in Canada before heading back across the border.
