Bring on the Comets

Released by Astralwerks

In the long three years since Night on Fire made them a surprise breakout, Louisville, Kentucky’s favorite dance sons lost guitarist Zeke Buck. However, on their engaging third album, Bring on the Comets, the now-three-piece group proves they haven’t lost their ability to blend superb pop hooks with dance beats. If anything, that skill has been heightened. Throughout the new collection, which kicks off with the rising instrumental hooks of ‘Euglama,’ then delves into the almost pop/punk energy of ‘Love in my Pocket,’ the band infuses the songs with subtly effective musical undertones. Be it the sly, psychedelic feel of ‘She Says,’ the impossible to categorize anthemic title track, or the new wave-tinged ‘We Could be One,’ VHS or Beta bring new layers to its tracks. At its core though, the group remains superior pop craftsmen. And if you don’t believe, just try and resist ‘Burn It All Down’ when it comes blaring from car stereos, club speakers and stores, which it surely will for the rest of the year.
