While tens of thousands reveled in Lollapalooza madness in downtown Chicago last weekend, a small fraction of that number descended on a hayfield in the greener pastures of northeastern Vermont for what is undoubtedly one of the best kept secrets in all of music festivals. Lollapalooza May hold the crown as the largest independent music fest in the U.S., but the Northeast Kingdom Music Festival might just be the most organic. And it ain't no second-rate show, either. After rousing performances from headliners Gogol Bordello, Antibalas and The Crown City Rockers a year ago made the event worth repeating for this music fan, this year's roster found Cali acts Fishbone and The Coup take top billing while NYC hip-hop was well represented with The Real Live Show, The Hip Hop ReEducation Program and Cassettes Won't Listen.
