Level Live Wires

Released by Anticon

For years, Ohio Native and Anticon member, Odd Nosdam has been cutting mixtapes, spinning records and producing beats for not only his Anticon brethren, but also for the likes of Sage Francis, Boards of Canada, Peeping Tom, and cLOUDED. Those familiar with Nosdam’s style of manipulating loops and samples, can rest assured knowing that not much has changed since his last album, Burn in 2005. Two years later we have his latest, Level Live Wires, Nosdam’s picking up exactly where he left off, doing what he does best’making ambient beats pop, ooze, sizzle and bubble out of your speakers and into your ears. Not straying too far from his formula, one would think that this collection of instrumentals was left over from his Burn sessions. The eerie static from his previous works is still there on the album’s opening track “Blast” and “Up In Flames.” The strange background noises from “Untitled Two,” and “Upsetter” are still there on “Burner.” Easily the top standout tracks on the LP are both of the “Kill Tone” tracks (aptly named “Kill Tone” and “Kill Tone Two”). Although the majority of the album is not that memorable, it is pretty damn warm and infectious. Let’s just say this collection of ambient, hypnotizing, and distorted beats is beautifully-ugly.
