Vladislav Delay – Whistleblower (Review)

Vladislav Delay

Whistleblower

Released by Huume

Those who fully experience the invasive glacial rumble of Vladislav Delay’s music (or his more populist alter-ego Luomo) don’t merely listen to it: they immerse themselves in it. Or rather, it immerses you by reaching your head with trebly clicks and cuts on the high end before filling the midrange with dubby gurgles and bass burps that resemble the dying motor of an old refrigerator. Then, when the low-end vibrations get even darker and deeper, like they do on Whistleblower’s six long, languid tracks, it gets so intense you might feel like you’re having sex on another planet. Tracks such as ‘I Saw a Polysexual’ and ‘Wanted To (Kill)’ crackle and crash like thunderstorm blues jams, and the title song seduces you with sonic purrs and cascading echoes until you find yourself slow dancing to a heartbeat apparently creating itself as it goes along. This is sonic madness for the inner space age’disturbing, enchanting and so very lovely.
