Despite having only released his first record (the hit ‘Roomies EP’ on Clink) this past Fall Kevin McHugh AKA Ambivalent is no stranger to the industry – the newly recruited M_nus artist makes me wanna slap my forehead and say ‘why didn’t I think of that’ when I listen to his latest work. Richie Hawtin really knows how to pick’em, because this record is an instant hit and will make an impression on DJs in many genres, not just minimal. The title track ‘R-U-OK?’ is a minimal rocker featuring a guy talking a female party girl down off of a bad trip, while riding a superb four on the floor micro-tonic rhythm with a truly swanky synth riff. Word on the street is this one will buzz in everyone’s ear at WMC 2007.
